3 Secrets to Sticking to Goals Most People Don't Know

How time flies and it's February already! How are you doing with your goals?

According to statistics, if you still keep your New Year's resolution by now, you are ahead of 64% of people who made resolutions at the start of the year.

Like I said before, some goals, especially those hard stretching goals, are not meant to be reached at first go. Be it starting a new exercise program, learning a new skill, starting a business, or writing a book. The fact that we are failing just goes to show how important and valuable reaching that goal means to us.

We just need to step back, take a breath, and re-focus our effort now. Here are few tips that I believe are very effective in getting us back on track with our goals.

1. Reduce the intensity.

Oftentimes when we attempt a new goal, we tend to be over confident and take on too much. We usually end up being overwhelmed or simply burn out and lose the momentum. The easy fix is reduce the amount of whatever you do to reach your goal. What matters more is consistency. Getting into the habit of sticking to it is far more important than progress at early stages.

2. Try a new approach.

The reason we fail to keep at a goal sometimes just proves the method we use is wrong or ineffective. There is nothing personal about it. Ignore the negative self talk. Go do a little research and set out with a new approach, a new way, a new path. All roads lead to Rome. If we get blocked on one road, just come around and find another.

3. Believe in second try.

If people were allowed to try only once, then probably all the beautiful things in this world would never have been created at all. Even if you do exactly the same thing as you did the first time, there is always a difference in doing it a second time. Our skills may have increased, our knowledge grown, our experience expanded, all great reasons to give it another try.


Whatever we do, as long as it's not giving up now, we will always be ahead of most people in achieving goals.
