Hope you are enjoying the summer time. It's been quite hot for me here in Vancouver lately. We could really use a few cool rainy days!
I've been sending out this newsletter for more than 10 years. Over time, I've shared with you a lot of advice and tips for setting and reaching goals. I've also tried and experimented with many of them. Some worked well, some not so much. But one thing I've learnt is very effective for reaching almost any kind of goals. And I believe it's the best advice on goal setting.
To reach your goal, simply strive to work on your goal everyday.
The reason why this may be the best goal advice is because by keeping a daily goal action routine, you automatically:
1. Never forget about your goal. A lot of people fail to reach their goal simply because of neglect. To work on your goal daily, at the very least, you will not forget about it.
2. Take steady and consistent action. Another reasons we don't reach our goal is because we can't stick to it. To stick to your goal, there is really not much to it, you just try your best to do something, anything, every day.
3. Build momentum and make real progress. We often give up when we are not seeing progress. Then we slack on action, and then even less progress. To reverse this downward trend, just work on it every day and soon you will gather momentum and real progress is not far ahead.
There are probably too many benefits of keeping a daily goal routine to list them all in this post. Some of them you'll become aware of only when you start implementing this advice.
You may say, "I don't have the time to work on my goals everyday. It'd be just too much." If that's the case, you can at least do it for one of your most important goals. if you can't find a goal you can work towards every day, then your goals are probably not that important for you. So you'll need to think up some really serious goals.
But what about the goals that you don't have to, or can't work on it every day? Like work goals, or goals that have certain schedule or deadlines to them.
My suggestion is that for those kind of goals, you don't have to physically "work" on it every day, but you can mentally work on it. You can always plan, review and think about it. That mental work still counts. Sometimes that could be more important than taking real action.
Hope you like this simple yet not so easy advice, and more importantly apply it to one or more of your goals today.
